Emergency Kit

We would also advise preparing a flood kit of essential items, the kit should include emergency contact numbers, insurance policy documents, first aid kit, torch, water, spare clothing, sand bags, spade, bucket and wellies.

It is advised to move any valuable or sentimental belongings up high to reduce the risk of damage.

If you need to make a claim

Knowing the correct course of action should your business or property be affected during a flood can save you both time and money.

  • Do make simple emergency repairs: If possible take photographs of the damage first and keep all quotes and receipts
  • Leave dangerous work such as fixing the roof to professionals
  • Turn the power off, if safe, in a flooded home
  • Ensure homes are safe and secure before leaving to prevent further loss

Paying the excess

You will have to make a small contribution towards the cost of repairs, known as the excess. This amount varies, especially where insured’s are in an area known to be susceptible to flooding.
