Essential Flood Warning Information
With flood warnings issued across many parts of the country, it is important to stay safe and ensure that your homes, properties and businesses are protected. Preparing for these weather conditions can reduce the damage to your property and business as well as save lives.
If you live or have a property in a flood risk area, we recommend you keep up to date with the situation by following information feeds online or if you do not have access to the internet you can call the 24 hour Floodline on 0345 988 1188
For further local advice your local radio or television news will provide you with the latest updates and advice for your area.
We would also advise preparing a flood kit of essential items, the kit should include emergency contact numbers, insurance policy documents, first aid kit, torch, water, spare clothing, sand bags, spade, bucket and wellies.
It is advised to move any valuable or sentimental belongings up high to reduce the risk of damage.
If you need to make a claim
Knowing the correct course of action should your business or property be affected during a flood can save you both time and money.
- Do make simple emergency repairs: If possible take photographs of the damage first and keep all quotes and receipts
- Leave dangerous work such as fixing the roof to professionals
- Turn the power off, if safe, in a flooded home
- Ensure homes are safe and secure before leaving to prevent further loss
Paying the excess
You will have to make a small contribution towards the cost of repairs, known as the excess. This amount varies, especially where insured’s are in an area known to be susceptible to flooding.
